As a pivotal member of our Public Policy team in Japan, this strategic role presents an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of technology policy and market innovation at both domestic and international levels.

In this position, you will architect and execute sophisticated advocacy campaigns focusing on competition and economic policy development. You will navigate complex stakeholder relationships across government bodies, industry leaders, academic institutions, and advocacy organizations, driving evidence-based policy discussions that promote innovation. Your role will include providing strategic counsel on evolving Japanese legislative and regulatory landscapes, as well as developing compelling policy narratives and communications strategies that resonate with diverse audiences.

The ideal candidate brings a proven track record in public policy development or government affairs, with demonstrated success in influencing policy outcomes. Deep understanding of Japanese legislative processes and regulatory frameworks is essential, along with superior stakeholder management capabilities across public and private sectors. You must possess exceptional analytical and communication skills, with the ability to distill complex policy matters into actionable insights, coupled with a strategic mindset to align policy initiatives with organizational objectives.

Experience with developing and executing multi-stakeholder engagement strategies, along with the ability to build and maintain relationships with senior government officials and industry leaders, will be crucial for success in this role. Your capacity to anticipate policy trends, identify opportunities, and navigate complex political environments will be instrumental in advancing our organization's objectives in the Japanese market and beyond.

Key job responsibilities
• Policy Advocacy: Lead campaigns and advocacy efforts, including legislative and regulatory initiatives.
• Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research and analysis on emerging policy issues, including market trends, economic impacts, and legal frameworks.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with policymakers, regulatory agencies, industry leaders, think tanks, and other advocacy groups to advance our policy objectives.
• Messaging and Communications: Develop compelling policy briefs, reports, and public statements on key competition and antitrust issues, ensuring that messaging is clear, persuasive, and aligned with organizational goals.
• Public Campaigns: Design and execute public campaigns to raise awareness of policy issues, mobilize support, and influence decision-makers in favor of pro-innovation policies.
• Monitoring and Reporting: Stay informed on developments in competition and economic policies, providing regular updates to internal stakeholders and leadership.
• Coalition Building: Work collaboratively with other organizations, coalitions, and interest groups to amplify advocacy efforts and align on key policy priorities.

About the team
Work hard and make history with Amazon’s International Public Policy team. Like our business interests, our policy issues are broad, forward-thinking, and driven by what is best for our customers. The International Public Policy team works with a wide range of national, local, and supranational policymakers, industry organizations, NGOs and academia across numerous regulatory and policy issues, spanning policy, consumer and commercial environment.

Basic Qualifications


・A degree or a related field.
・Minimum of 10 years experience in public policy, advocacy, or government relations.
・Strong knowledge of policy-making process in Japan
・Excellent written and verbal communication skills both in English and Japanese, with the ability to convey complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.

・An advanced degree in law, economics, political science, and public policy
・Expertise in competition and antitrust policies
o Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
・Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
・Experience with coalition-building and working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
・A passion for fair competition and consumer protection, with a strong commitment to public policy advocacy.
・Public speaking experience.
